Toyota has confirmed the fourth-generation Highlander SUV for the Indian market. The 2021 Highlander will go on sale as early as the first quarter of 2021 in Europe.
The 2021 Toyota Highlander is based on Toyota’s TNGA-K (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform which keeps the overall weight down while providing high rigidity and low centre of gravity.

2021 Toyota Highlander Engine
The 2021 Toyota Highlander SUV is offered with a full-time Hybrid powertrain that uses a 2.5-litre Atkinson Cycle petrol engine with the electric motor mounted both on the front and the rear wheel. The total output of petrol and the electric motors comes to 241 bhp. The Highlander is also equipped with an eCVT for transmission and Toyota’s propriety Intelligent All-Wheel-Drive system (called the AWD-i). The NiH (Nickle Metal Hydride) battery which power the electric motors is placed under the rear seats.
The new Highlander also gets four driving modes to choose, according to driving conditions and style; Eco, Normal, Sport and Trail.
A major highlight on the 2021 Highlander is the outstandingly lower level of NVH or Noise, Vibration and Harshness thanks to the use of glazed windscreen, and dampeners for the sunroof, dashboard, wheel wells and other parts of the cabin. This gives the new Highlander a richer and more plush driving experience.

2021 Toyota Highlander Interior & Exterior Features
Starting with the inside, the new Toyota Highlander is a true-blue 7-seater SUV with a premium yet practical interior. The SUV gets three rows of seating with a sliding second-row to accommodate a third-row passenger with comfort.
The Highlander boasts a decent boot space of 658 litres with all rows up and a massive 1,909 litres with the second and the third row down.
Upfront on the dash, the new Highlander gets a 12.3-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and Satellite Navigation. The car also gets a heads-up display, a digital rear-view mirror, wireless phone charging pads, ventilated seats and much more.

The 2021 Highlander is based on the TNGA-K platform and measures 4,940mm, 1,930mm and 1,730mm in length, width and height respectively.
2021 Toyota Highlander Safety Features
Toyota hasn’t left any stone unturned on the new Toyota Highlander, in terms of safety. The Highlander gets Toyota’s “Safety Sense” which is basically a set of onboard safety equipment like PCS (Pre Collision System) with active steer and pedestrian/cyclist detection. Also, it gets an Adaptive Cruise Control with RSA (Road Sign Assist), LTA (Lane Tracing System), LDA (Lane Departure Alert), AHB (Automatic High Beam) and more.
