Electric Cars Sold In April-December 2019 Reaches Over 1,500 Units

A report stated that a total of 1,554 Electric cars were sold in the month of April-December 2019. This is a step in the right direction for the EV market in India as more companies switch to electric the numbers will only see a rise.

Tata Tigor EV clocking in the most sales out of the four sold is a sedan electric car.

  • Tata Tigor EV has a 105Nm torque and 40.23bhp output.
  • It can reach a top speed of 80km/h.
  • Tata Tigor EV employs the use of a 72V 3-Phase AC Induction motor.
  • It has an ARAI certified range of 213 km in the new long-range version while the older one had a meagre range of 142km.
  • It only has two airbags and doesn’t have features like child lock and central locking.

Next on the list is Mahindra e-Verito the electric car which is popularly employed as a taxi.

  • It can reach a power output of 41.5bhp and 91Nm torque.
  • Mahindra e-Verito has a 288ah lithium battery which can fast charge 80% in 1 hour 30 mins.
  • A top speed of 86km/h and a range of 140km this electric car is not ideal for long-distance travelling.
  • Mahindra e-Verito slacks on the safety department with only one driver airbag and ABS.

Hyundai Kona EV saw popularity after the government switched from e-Verito to this electric car for their fleet

  • This electric car has a battery capacity of 39.2kwh providing a range of 312 km making it a better choice for covering large distances also making it the electric car with the most range in this list.
  • However the long-range comes with a catch that it doesn’t have a fast charging option taking it 6h 10 mins to charge.

Last and the least sold is the Mahindra e20. The electric car has average power and range making it not a really good choice compared to the other choices available.

  • A maximum range of 110km on a full charge making it the lowest range option in this list of electric cars.
  • A 25hp and 70Nm power output which is also on the lower side.

With more electric cars coming this year these numbers are expected to rise exponentially over time and with the government providing subsidies to make EV more lucrative options than the conventional fuel options.
