Most Maruti cars are successful, and the Grand Vitara is no exception. Well, it is a complete package of features, safety, and most importantly, efficiency. Maruti is keen on expanding its consumer base and a 7-seater version of the Grand Vitara looks like the perfect way to go. Yes, a 7-seater variant of the Grand Vitara is in the works and it may come to India very soon. Here’s everything you need to know about the bigger Grand Vitara!
-
Design and Platform
As for most LWB variants, the looks are likely to remain the same. The rear will be different as the third row will be accommodated. In terms of looks, the Grand Vitara is simple and modern. It is not too flashy and the 7-seater counterpart, codenamed Y17, will most likely follow the same design language. It will sit on the same Global-C platform which is a tried and tested chassis.

-
Engine
The engine options will remain the same as the 5-seater variants. Two 1.5L petrol engines will be offered, one with a mild hybrid and one with a strong-hybrid system. The 7-seater variant coupled with a strong-hybrid system will be a hit in the cab market if priced well. Transmission options will also be the same. A 5-speed manual for the mild-hybrid engine and an eCVT automatic for the hybrid.

Why the 7-seater Grand Vitara?
The Grand Vitara currently competes with the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Kia Seltos, and VW Taigun. With the 7-seater Grand Vitara, Maruti wants to enter the segment where the XUV700 and the Tata Safari are the kings. Reliability and service is the strongest tool in Maruti’s pocket, and fuel efficiency is also through the roof with hybrid engines. This is probably the main reason why a 7-seater variant of the Grand Vitara makes a lot of sense.

-
Will the features get an upgrade?
The Grand Vitara is one of the most feature-loaded cars in its segment. It gets a panoramic sunroof, a heads-up display, a 360-degree camera, ventilated seats, and much more. The 7-seater Grand Vitara will follow the trend. One thing missing here is ADAS. However, it is very unlikely that Maruti will add ADAS features in the 7-seater version.

Launch and pricing
The prices for the upcoming Grand Vitara are expected to lie between Rs. 12-22 Lakhs. It will be one of the most affordable cars in the segment. The 7-seater Grand Vitara is expected to launch in either late 2023 or early 2024 in India. It will also be exported to multiple foreign markets.
