There are several organizations that makes sure your car is safe they evaluate a car in a number of situations. Some of these organizations are:

- Bharat NCAP
- Latin NCAP
- Euro NCAP
In this blog, we are gonna analyze the Maruti Suzuki Baleno safety rating by Latin NCAP, as Maruti Baleno wasn’t tested by Global NCAP. You must be wondering can Latin NCAP be trusted? The answer is Yes, in fact, Latin NCAP testing protocol is more strict than Global NCAP, giving you all the more reason to trust its evaluation. So let’s fasten our seat belts for our safety and understand how Maruti Suzuki Baleno was rated by Latin NCAP.
What is Latin NCAP?
You must be questioning Latin NCAP? What is that? Well stop questioning, GoMechanic is here to tell you about it. The Latin New Car Assessment Program or as we might know Latin NCAP, is a program that evaluates the safety standards of vehicles. Its main motive is to aware people of the safety standards of vehicles. It not only promotes safety standards, but it also evaluates vehicle safety and gives ratings accordingly.
Latin NCAP evaluates vehicles on the basis of 4 protocols:
- Adult Occupants Protection – The Adult Occupant Protection score is determined by the car’s ability to protect the adults inside the car from the frontal, side as well as whiplash.
- Child occupant protection – This evaluation judges the basis of whether the vehicle is compatible with various child restraints of various sizes and designs such as CRS installation score. It also makes sure that it has ISOFIX anchorages for child seats.
- Safety features – It is checked whether the vehicle possesses the required safety features to prevent any kind of incident. These features include ESC, ABS, etc.
- Pedestrian Safety – It assesses the protection provided to vulnerable pedestrians by the safety feature of the car.
Suzuki Baleno NCAP Rating by Latin NCAP
Baleno Safety Rating rated Zero By Latin NCAP, let’s understand the reason behind Baleno scoring a disappointing Zero, but before that, we need to know which model took the test:

Adult Occupant (8.01) –
Frontal impact: The protection offered to the driver and passenger head and neck was good. Driver and Passenger chest showed adequate protection. Driver and one passenger’s knees showed marginal protection as they can impact with dangerous structures behind the fascia, the other passenger’s knee showed good protection. Driver tibias showed adequate protection, and passenger tibias showed good protection. The Footwell area was rated as stable. The bodyshell was rated as stable and is capable of withstanding further loadings.
Side impact: Head and pelvis protection was good; abdomen protection was adequate and chest protection was poor leading to zero points for this test.
Side Pole Impact: This was not performed as the car does not have side head protection as standards.
Whiplash: showed poor performance. the car can not prove the element of rear impact (R32) pre-requisites. AEB City: The car does not offer AEB City even as optional. Rescue sheet: not available

Child Occupant (8.36)-
The child seat for the 3-year-old child was installed rearward facing using ISOFIX anchorages and support leg and was capable of preventing excessive forward movement of the head. Frontal and side impact protection was good. The Q1.5 was installed rearward facing using ISOFIX connectors and a support leg while it offered good protection for the frontal and side impact protection.
CRSs for the test the dynamic score was 0. The car has ISOFIX anchorages in rear outboard positions. Disabling the passenger airbag when a rearward-facing CRS in the passenger seat was not possible. Some of the CRS could be installed properly in the required positions.

Pedestrian Safety (30.75)-
The car does not prove to meet Pedestrian Protection UN regulations. The car showed a majority of areas with good to marginal protection levels. AEB VRU: not offered even as optional, as ESC is not standard eventually it would not be able to score AEB points.
On the basis of all these above-mentioned evaluations, the Baleno Safety rating was rated zero by Latin NCAP.
