Today, on 12 September 2025, a fire broke out in a Glanza car on a busy street in Gurgaon earlier today, causing panic among people nearby. The incident happened around 11:30 AM on Sohna Road, Gurgaon. With smoke flowing out from the front of the vehicle, the car was all on fire within five minutes. But the driver noticed the smoke on time and got out of the vehicle before the fire could spread.
All emergency services were called to handle the situation. They quickly took charge, made sure that people were kept at a safe distance away from the burning car.
What Officials Said About the Situation
Although officials at the site of the incident reported that they are still working to find a cause for the fire, early signs suggest that there might be a mechanical or electrical failure. Such incidents tend to be very common for older vehicles, and for vehicles that do not operate with proper maintenance.
According to the experts in the investigation, cases like these can occur if:
- Wires or electrical components are broken, and sparks are generated.
- There may be a few fuel leaks that let petrol or diesel fall upon hot surfaces.
- Engines overheat due to a lack of coolant or the aging of parts.
- They are repaired inappropriately at home or by untrained persons.
- Lack of correct installation and servicing of CNG or LPG kits.
Why Car Fires Happen
Car fires rarely occur out of nowhere, there are usually a few warning signs present before the car catches fire. Here are some signs to be on the lookout for before a fire occurs:
- A burning smell coming from the engine or inside the car
- Visible smoke from under the hood or on the dashboard
- Changes in the dashboard warning lights
- Fluid leaking under the front or rear of the car
- Sudden loss of performance or strange sound from the engine.
Most of these indicators can result from poor maintenance or ignoring car maintenance altogether. In traffic-heavy cities like Gurgaon, where the vehicle is constantly in stop-start motion, wear and tear on the vehicle is very common to happen. Over time, it can affect performance and subsequently result in a car breakdown.
How to Prevent Car Fires
According to experts, most car fires do not occur by magic. Usually, they develop out of some minor issues that we ignore for too long. The good thing is that most of these fires can be prevented if one follows some preventive safety measures:
- Periodic service at a reliable service center
Routine maintenance avoids issues. During each maintenance, the mechanic checks important systems, such as the engine, wiring, brakes, battery, and fuel system. If anything is worn, leaking, or broken, those problems are fixed beforehand.
- Look for fluid leaks
Petrol or diesel fluids are highly flammable, and if leaked, ignition is easy when they come in contact with a hot engine or exhaust pipe. Engine or transmission fluids might be hazardous too in fire outbreaks. Check for spots or puddles under your car and immediately go for a car inspection if you smell anything suspicious.
- Warnings like smells, smoke, or dashboard lights
Usually, your automobile will give you signs when it’s getting into some major trouble. It might start with a burning smell, smoke from under the hood, or lights on the dashboard that are screaming for your attention. When you see that something is going terribly wrong, you would like to take notice and take action.
- Don’t attempt DIY electrical or engine repairs
Trying to fix a car problem yourself at home can be very dangerous if you are not aware enough. Bad wiring, bad parts, and bad installations can create electrical problems that can short circuit and cause sparks. Therefore electrical works (especially on motors) should be performed by a qualified professional.
- Don’t ignore overheating
If you see the engine temperature rise with no other warning, or the engine produces steam from underneath the hood. Then you must shut the engine off and allow the engine to cool down completely before restarting the vehicle.
A Reminder for All Drivers
A car fire on the streets of Gurgaon can remind vehicle owners the fact that car fires exist and they are scary indeed, but in many cases, they are preventable. The driver in this case was fortunate; not everyone will be so lucky. Vehicle maintenance is to be taken seriously by drivers. Spending a few minutes on a car check or visiting the mechanic can improve the health of the car and may save a few lives. In case your car bothers you in any way, do not wait for it to break down. If you still have doubts about the condition of your vehicle, after all, do not hesitate to go for a car inspection immediately. Being careful and alert can make so much of a difference on the roads!
