Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has recently launched the states own “Electric Vehicle Policy”. under the new EVP the government will waive off the registration fee and road tax for the next three years, and provide an additional incentive of up to Rs 1.5 lakh on the purchase of electric vehicles in the national capital.
What is the need for an Electric Vehicle Policy?
According to the chief minister, this policy aims towards reducing air pollution which has however reduced by over 25% over the past 5 years but the government still aims to reduce it much further in the nearing future.
Additionally, The new electric vehicle policy which has been termed as a progressive policy will also aim towards creating many job opportunities to boost the economy which has taken a huge hit due to the on-going Coronavirus pandemic.
What is the Delhi government aiming upon?
By implementing this policy the Delhi government aims to register 5,00,000 electric vehicles in the city by the end of 2024. The Kejriwal government is also in the process of setting up a “State EV Fund” as well as a “State Electric Vehicle Board” headed by the transport minister- Kailash Gahlot.
The Kejriwal government is also planning upon establishing a dedicated EV Cell from ground level. The tenure of the policy will be three years under which the government will be targeting various environmental factors and the ways to reduce them.
- The Kejriwal government will also be focusing on increasing the EV registrations in the national capital to 25% of total vehicles sold by 2024 which currently stands at 0.2%.
- As mentioned above it also aims towards creating new jobs which include- driving, selling, financing, servicing, charging facilities and new job types.
- The policy will also provide offers and incentive up and above the FAME II scheme.
What type of incentive will the new Electric vehicle policy offer?
The central government already offers a huge amount of incentives and offers to boost the growth of electric vehicles in the country, Delhi’s own EVP also have a lot of to offer up and above the FAME II scheme which include.
- Two-wheelers- Incentive upto Rs 30,000
- Four-wheelers- Incentive upto Rs 1,50,000
- E-rickshaws- Incentive upto Rs 30,000
- E-commercial goods carrier- Incentive upto Rs 30,000
Additionally, the Delhi government has also announced a new vehicle scrapping incentive under which if a person exchanges their old, combustion vehicle with a new EV, the scrapping incentive will still be provided to the designated person. However, the exact amount of the incentive will not be disclosed.

I am planning to buy an EV, probably a nexon EV. Wanted to ask, is this scheme just for the people living in delhi ? And are there enough electricity fuel pump in delhi or gurgaon ?

About the charging stations, you will have to look for a charging station near your locality as there is no developed charging infrastructure yet.
