In 2023, India witnessed a 2.5 times increase in number of car stolen as compared to 2022. 

One car is stolen every 14 minutes in the national capital region according to the reports in 2023, with 105 cars stolen on average every day. Among these, the national capital, New Delhi is accountable for more than 56% of the car stolen in India. Other places such as Chennai and Bengaluru also saw a spike in stolen car cases but it is nowhere near to the capital city. Cities like Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Mumbai reported the least number of such cases.

These are some scary and concerning numbers, you never know when your car is next. This concern calls for some advance safety measures and what’s better to protect your vehicle than a number plate with a national tamper-proof identity?

High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) aim to enhance road safety and improve vehicle security. You must be wondering what is HSRP? How to get the HSRP number plate? High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) are authorized number plates by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). HSRPs normalize vehicle registration across India for better traceability and reduction in fake number plates.

Key Features include:

  1. Chromium-Based Hologram: A Hologram is a specialized insignia with multiple layers for refracting light at complex levels. These nearly impossible-to-forge symbols are embedded on the plate. It ensures authenticity and prevents duplication.
  2. Laser-Etched Unique Identification Number (UID): A permanent code links the plate to a centralized database, enabling easy verification.
  3. Non-Removable Snap Locks: Plates are fixed with locks to prevent unauthorized removal or reuse.
  4. Reflective Film: Enhances visibility in low-light conditions, improving road safety.
  5. Color-coded Stickers: Indicate fuel type and compliance with emission norms:
    • Blue: Petrol or CNG
    • Orange: Diesel
    • Green: Electric Vehicles
    • Green Stripe: BS6-compliant vehicles

For all cars in India, high security number plates are now required by the Ministry of Road and Transport (MoRTH). These plates must be attached to both individual and business vehicles. Whether you own a car, motorcycle, truck, or any other type of motor vehicle, HSRP is required since it will make your car much safer.

This license plate is fitted on all cars purchased after April 2019. Those who have purchased their vehicle before this need to upgrade to an HSRP, it is essential to do so at the earliest to avoid penalties and ensure your vehicle’s security.

HSRP color coded stickers 

In addition to the high security number plate, vehicles are mandated to have a color-coded sticker. This security and identification sticker is part of the security and identification system which is being introduced to provide vehicular monitoring and security enhancements. The sticker is a direct visual proof of the registration status of the vehicle and it can enable the agencies to quickly check whether the vehicle conforms to the HSRP standards. Every sticker comes with a serial number, correlated to the data within the HSRP. That guarantees the sticker and plate are always a unit and interchanging them without being noticed is not possible.

  • The color-coded HSRP sticker is an important part of facilitating security

  • Step 1: Visit https://bookmyhsrp.com/#.
  • Step 2: Select ‘High-Security Registration Plate With Colour Sticker’.
  • Step 3: Now, enter all the details.
  • Step 4: Next step is to, select the location and book the appointment slot.
  • Step 5: On the next page, the fee must be paid.
  • Step 6: Download the receipt for verification.

  • Step 1: Visit https://bookmyhsrp.com/#.
  • Step 2: Select ‘Only Colour Sticker’.
  • Step 3: Now enter all the details asked vehicle registration state, registration number, chassis number, and engine number.
  • Step 4: Enter the rear and front of the laser code that the mentioned on the HSRP.
  • Step 5: Enter the captcha.
  • Step 6: Click on ‘Click Here’.
  • Step 7: Next, select the fitment location and book the appointment slot.
  • Step 8: On the next page, the fee must be paid.
  • Step 9: A copy of the receipt must be downloaded for verification.

Offline Application Process:

  • Step 1 -Visit the closeby (RTO) or an authorized installation center.
  • Step 2 – Submit the required documents.
  • Step 3 -Pay the fee at the center.

  2. The author seems to have given incomplete information because the portal does not give the option of applying for fuel stickers alone.
    I already have HSRP but when I enter the portal and enter details of Chasis , engine etc, the portal asks to pay for HSRP only.There is no provision to pay just foe Fuel sticker.
    Request author to try for himself.

          We can understand your helplessness. However, state transport deptt. has temporarily suspended the enforcement drive against vehicles without HSRP. A proper process and protocol are being put into place. The state should have worked on the implementation better.

      • While applying for Color Coded Stickers i am stuck with appointment time slot ! the site hangs for past 1 week and till date unable to book same. Will call up call center tomorrow, any once aware of next process.

    • Hey Sunny,
      There are two options when you click on “HSRP Colour Sticker” options. If you already have a a HSRP plate on your car. Click on the right-side options “Proceed for HSRP Booking” and fill out your details.

      Alternatively, you can also walk-in to your nearest Showroom/Dealership (for your car brand) and get a colour-coded sticker for your car.

    • Hey Shinoj, HSRP is mandatory all over India. We would suggest you get the HSRP 3rd sticker too, to avoid future troubles. Walk in to your nearest dealership (of your car) and they will help you out. Its a 5 mins process.

          • Hi … hsrphr.com for Haryana is now open. Though there is no home delivery, you can book appointment and go and get it fixed at the dealership of your choice. Honda has few slots so i got appointment for 12/01 but the receipt is valid till 27/01 so its ok. UP registrations have now stopped because vendor can’t take any more orders for now. Please inform everyone in the group who is asking for HR number plates. Thanks.

      • Your post is misleading, photographs showing HR number, but on bookmyhsrp.com have only provision for delhi and UP, please update the photograph and material of post in view of Gurgaon.

      For this, we would suggest you visit your nearest dealership/showroom (of your car brand). It is literally a 5-mins procedure to procure an HSRP 3rd sticker. Hope this helps.

    • I too faced the same problem. Turned out that I need to give the entire Engine and Chassis number and not the last 6-7 digits. For me the engire number is something like FXXX. Chassis number is 16 digits and letters.

  6. I have Chevrolet vehicle and on hsrp site there is no option for this brand vehicle how can I apply for hsrp number plate and color coded sticker because the brand left the country and there is no authorised dealer of the brand

  7. when i fill up the form for 3rd sticker, nothing comes in Dealer Affixation Centre, what to do and get the affixation center and from where. I have booked my HSRP from Rana Motors Tis Hazari, Delhi. Can I get the 3rd sticker straightway from M/s Rana Motors where I have an appointment for HSRP on 08/010/2020. Further despite filling the front laser in front rear window, it is not accepting and every time portal says fill up front laser? Please clarify

      As of now, the state transport deptt. has temporarily suspended the enforcement drive against vehicles without HSRP. A proper process and protocol are being put into place. The transport authority is currently working on fixing the glitches that are causing unnecessary delays. We advise you to wait until the implementation is improved.

      Unfortunately, this is a problem almost all Chevrolet and Isuzu owners are facing. I would request you to wait till they update their database or contact your nearest RTO for more info.

  11. There is no any option for TVS BIKES. Is there any different process for TVS bike as this is not in list of bookmyhsrp. What to do? Please

      The government has currently put a stop on the HSRP process due to the technical glitches on the website. Please wait while all the errors and glitches are rectified.

  15. Can anyone suggest where do I go for Booking HSRP for my Chevrolet Aveo Uva car ? Because there is no option for Chevrolet vehicles on bookmyhsrp.com

  16. I reached out to RTO Noida to inquire above HSRP for Chevrolet car however they also does not have any information regarding it and does not support HSRP request. All Chevrolet car owners are clue less as to where they can get HSRP despite valid RC for another 5-10 years. Also contacted Chevrolet Service center and they are in touch with General Motors regarding this however still does not have any update. No option but to wait and watch.

      • Ye kon sa javab hua bhai , ye to apne aap se palla jhadne wali baat ho gayi. Jab banda sari detail apni RC se correct fill up kar raha hai to aap apne system k checks ko correct karo na uper se error bhi tumhara kindly update details from your registration certificate….. sari detail system se hi to fill ki hai …. jameen khod kar thode hi laye hai bhai

  24. Front number plate on my bike got damaged so I replaced it year ago with normal no plate. Is there any option to get single plate only?

    • Hi Vinay,
      For Mahindra XUV500, you have to select Four Wheeler Vehicle under Make/Type, then select Mahindra. For vehicle class, select Private Vehicle if you use the SUV for personal use. Otherwise, select Commercial Vehicle if you use it for commercial use. Then add all the required details. Do let us know if you have any other query.

        I bought car in Chandigarh . I registered in Himachal . Now I live in Delhi. I have HSRP from Himachal. How to and from where do I get colour coded sticker. This option is not available in Himachal transport department , as it is not applied there.

    • Hi Achal, so did you create just a login or there were any other next steps on the parivahan website, I did the login creation yesterday, even till now MyHSRP portal is throwing the same error “Kindly update details from your registration certificate. (Vehicle registratoin number xxxxx)’ as I just now checked.

      The customer care care also said the same thing to go to Parivahan sewa and create a login and try after 24hrs or so also said to create the browsing history. But no luck, will after some time again. else will call MyHSRP customer care.

  40. I had all the details on my old white sticker- Rear & front codes of HSRP , chassis number, vehicle number, engine number. I Had put in a valid blue petrol code background colour from inside too. My only confusion is dear that in the previous stickers the DATE OF PURCHASE of vehicle is not mentioned. My number plates are also proper HSRP compliant. ANYONE HELP – MOHIT VERMA

Unable to find record on the server. Please Contact to administrator.”

  52. the whole process is a mess. Govt must ensure to make a smooth process then only they should doing challans. bookmyhsrp site is a big mess and never work. i am putting all my details correct it is still saying “kindly update details from your registration certificate”. Ideally after putting the registration number, the website should pull all details automatically from the RTO system.

    My vehicle xuv 500 is registered in HP but issued vehicle from delhi. Himchal dont have option of booking online colour sticker. I am staying at noida now. Hsrp site only takes booking of up and DL. I am fed up now contacted rto and dealers but they also have no solution to it. What should i do now..please help me for sticker only.

    • I got the same error and the solution is that you have to remove first 3 characters from your chassis number and instead add the last ones which had a * in my case. Overall chassis number is 20 characters but form accepts only 17. You have to avoid first 3 and start from the 4th letter onwards.

I already have the HSRP plate however when i try to book just for the sticker, after filling out all the necessary details i click the option for home deliver, when i land upto the point where i need to select the home delivery date and time the date is already selected and there in no option to select the time. i tried with all the os and web browsers the issues stays, i have also tried to contact the hsrp customer care no but as usual no one picks the call, i then tried to email them and yes no one responds. Please advise how do i go about getting only the sticker.

    – Enter last 5 digits in each of the field i.e. Chassis Number and Engine Number (instead of entering the entire number) and it will take you to next screen.

  79. Hello Guys, here is the solution.
    First lets say your Chassis No. is ABCDEXXXXXXXXXXXXX54321
    I was not able to fill entire chassis number because of the character limit on bookmyhsrp site. One thing to note is that hsrp site was not accepting last 5 digits of chasis number.

    So the resoluton is that you will have to remove first 5 character of chassis number ie ABCDE and include last 5 characters of your chasis number

  83. After trying to register my car for color coded sticker, I finally got through with the help of this site. I had to enter last 5 digits for chassis no. as already mentioned above. My chassis number contains the “~” special character. But now i am stuck after entering the delivery address. It prompts ” Server error in ‘/’ application” . What should I do now? I have also tried by removing “/” character from address now.

After multiple attempts to get my vehicle registered at hsrp, I could finally pass the vehicle details page after using only last five digits of chassis number as suggested in the comments above. My chassis number consists of character ~. However, now I am stuck at delivery address page. It shows ” sever error in ‘/’ application” . I have also tried registering without the character ‘/’. What should I do now?

  86. I have re-registered my vehicle in mParivahan. And after that in HSRP booking portal, I entered the last 4 digits of Chasis and Engine no and it worked properly.

  90. The website is asking me to upload the front/back images of the laser code and number plate, but I am unable to do so. The process is stuck. Please suggest.

Just check the size of uploaded picture , I was also getting the same error but then i uploaded the images after reducing the size to 3.11 MB and guess what it worked perfectly, now after so many days i finally have the order completed… Big relief now assuming they will deliver my sticker by the stipulated date which is 8th Jan.

    The registration of my car Grand i 10 Nios was done in OCTOBER 2020, but unfortunately my car met with an accident in december. So i lost the sticker. If i am applying through bookmyhsrp , they are saying the registration of vehicle should be before April 2020 for application. How can i get the sticker? The registration state is Himachal and i am driving the vehicle in Chandigarh.

  97. I have hp registration car with Noc ,I m Srinagar Jammu and Kashmir..I have both plates HSrP, but lacking Sticker when I go to bookmy HSRP and enter oll details ,it says details doesn’t match with Vahan Database.
    Kindly Help
