Hyundai & Tata to Cut Prices Following New GST Rules

Recently, the Indian Government has introduced a new kind of GST system which is being called GST 2.0. One of the most important changes is the reduction of tax rates on cars, especially small and mid-size vehicles. Since this has been declared, many car companies have been lowering prices to pass this benefit on to the customers.

Hyundai and Tata Motors, two of the largest car manufacturers in India, were among the first to react. Their prices now show huge benefits to the buyers across a large number of models. Both companies are utilizing the new GST rules as a chance to increase sales and provide consumers with better prices. If you are planning on purchasing a car soon, now could be the best time to check out all the latest Hyundai and Tata car discounts in India 2025. In this blog, we will examine how GST 2.0 can impact car prices, and look at all the latest Hyundai and Tata car discounts offered by them.

Why Are Car Prices Declining?

Earlier cars in India were taxed at different rates depending upon the type, size, and engine capacity. For many vehicles, taxation used to be almost 28% plus some extra cess, especially for those that were larger or luxury ones.

With GST 2.0, the taxation system is simplified with:

  • 18% GST for small and mid-size cars, and two-wheelers with an below 350cc engine.
  • 40% GST for big SUVs and premium or luxury vehicles (down from roughly 48%).

These changes have brought down car prices all over India, and that’s great news for anyone looking to buy a car.

Hyundai Price Cut: Major Savings Across All Segments

Hyundai has said that it will pass on the full GST benefits to customers with effect from 22 September 2025. This means Hyundai prices for their cars have fallen heavily, with reductions of between Rs. 60,000 and Rs. 2.4 Lakhs, according to the model. The price reductions cut across hatchbacks, sedans, and SUVs. For example, popular smaller cars like the Grand i10 Nios and Aura have now been marked down by Rs. 73,800, and the i20 sees prices down by Rs. 98,000, while the sportier i20 N Line is saving up to Rs. 1.08 lakh. Even a mid-sized sedan like the Verna has become more affordable with a reduction of Rs. 60,000.

With SUVs, the savings are larger. The Exter is now Rs. 89,200 cheaper, while the Venue has been slashed by Rs. 1.23 lakh. Venue N Line receives a discount of Rs. 1.19 lakh. Family SUVs like the Creta et Creta N Line are down by Rs. 72,000 and by Rs. 71,700 respectively. Alcazar, on the other hand, is down by Rs. 75,000. The biggest discount goes to the premium Tucson, now down by Rs. 2.4 lakh. These changes surely go a long way in making Hyundai cars more appealing, especially for families, first-time buyers, and anyone looking for an upgrade at the better side of a budget.

Tata Motors Price Cut: Strong Reductions for Every Segment

Recently, bigger price reductions on Tata cars have been put in place following GST. From September 22, 2025, the company had declared a price reduction of ₹65,000 to ₹1.55 lakh across its passenger vehicle range. The offers are on almost all Tata cars for customers to get more value for their money. Entry-level hatchbacks, including the Tiago now offer discounts up to ₹75,000, while the Tigor has been discounted up to ₹80,000. Tata’s premium hatchback, the Altroz is even more affordable with the discount of ₹1.10 lakh.

Similar attention has also been given to price cuts for Tata’s SUV line, which are quite impressive. The highly popular Nexon is offering a huge ₹1.55 lakh discount. Newly found and seen as an attractive alternative, the Curvv will also have a price reduction of ₹65,000. In the larger SUV segment, the Harrier has been reduced by ₹1.4 lakh. What About Other Brands?

While Hyundai and Tata have taken the lead, others have followed with price adjustments, as well.

  • BMW has implemented the largest reductions formulated in the new GST price structure, which has seen some models reduce by ₹8.9 lakh. To provide specific examples of savings, the X5 and X7 have been significantly reduced and are now more affordable as premium vehicles.
  • Mercedes-Benz has reduced prices across the luxury lineup with reductions from ₹2.6 lakh to ₹11 lakh. Consumers will enjoy the major benefits of being able to purchase models like the S-Class, GLS, and GLE at a lower price.
  • Toyota has relied on big price cuts, particularly on the well-known Fortuner at a savings up to ₹3.49 lakh. Similar reductions can be found with other popular models, the Hilux, Vellfire, and Innova Crysta.
  • Skoda is offering a combination of festive offers along with GST-linked price reductions. The price of a Kodiaq now has price cuts of up to ₹5.8 lakh, while Skoda has also discounted its Slavia and Kushaq vehicles.
  • Renault has demonstrated the overall reduction of prices with increases in discounts to the customer at up to ₹96,000. Also, at up to ₹96,000, the Kiger model contains the most significant reduction.
  • Mahindra has been similarly proactive in implementing reductions and savings across the SUV range. There have also been sufficient price reductions for consumers on the XUV 3XO, Scorpio N, and Thar of up to ₹1.56 lakh savings on those vehicles.

Overall, to summarize all the brands outlined above, almost every significant brand passed on the benefit of GST affecting vehicle pricing, making 2025 the best year to purchase a vehicle in India.

Why This Matters for You?

  1. Cars are Cheaper Now: If you are in the market for a car, you could not have picked a better time, as car prices have reduced in India. Hyundai and Tata, and so many other brands, have reduced their prices on cars significantly. This is not a sale or limited-time promotion. This is a permanent cost reduction based on a tax reduction.
  2. Good Timing with the Festival Buying: In India, many families wait for the festivals (Navratri, Dussehra and Diwali) to buy a new vehicle. These GST car price reductions are being announced just before, giving customers a great opportunity to buy new cars with great savings.
  3. Prices are More Straightforward: Previously, the prices supported by GST were a bit odd and complex to understand. Now, with a simple two-rate structure (18%, 40%) it is clearer what you are paying and why. This clarity on price and tax benefits the car buyer.

How Much Are You Saving?

Depending on the model and brand, your savings will be between ₹60,000 & over ₹2.5 lakh. Here’s a basic way of looking at it:

  • Budget Cars (Tiago, i10): Save up to ₹80,000
  • Mid-range Cars (Nexon, i20, Punch): Save up to ₹1.55 lakh
  • Premium SUVs (Tucson, Safari): Save between ₹1.4 lakh and ₹2.4 lakh
