10 Made In India Cars That We Are Proud Of! #VocalforLocal

The Indian automotive market has been increasing rapidly and the lower manufacturing costs have prompted carmakers across the world to manufacture their cars here at our shores. And with the completely Indian brands such as Tata Motors and Mahindra taking the charge of making make-in-India mission, this industry is just getting better. Let’s take a look at 10 made-in-India cars that we Indians are proud of. Note that made-in India does not mean that the car was researched and developed in India too. There will be some cars on the this list that are produced on a large scale in India.

  1. Tata Nexon

    India’s first car to score a 5-star rating at the Global NCAP crash test is the Tata Nexon. And we Indians are really proud! The crossover SUV is a complete package be it the engine or the features. Talking about the engines, the Nexon is offered with two engine options: a 1.2-litre Revotron turbo-petrol capable of producing 118.3hp of power and a peak torque of 170Nm and a Revotron diesel engine which churns out 108hp of power and 260Nm of torque. With safety features like Electronic Stability Program (ESP), roll-over mitigation, hill hold control, emergency brake assist, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX anchorage, dual airbags as standard and the fortified cabin, this car surely knows how to make the occupants feel safe. And that’s not all! With features like rain-sensing wipers, auto headlamps, cruise control, electric sunroof, infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support and express cool, Tata Nexon surely is a car with comfort too.

  2. Mahindra XUV300

    Last year, Mahindra also launched it’s first 5-star at Global NCAP rated car, the Mahindra XUV300. What’s more interesting is that it was the first Indian car to get a 4-star rating for child safety, which none other cars till now have been able to achieve. This offering from Mahindra gets two engine options: a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine which produces 108hp of power and the best-in-class torque of 200Nm and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine which oozes 115hp of power and 300Nm of torque. Mahindra XUV300 boasts a plethora of first-in-class safety features such as 7 airbags, all-4 disc brakes, front parking sensors and heated ORVMs. Other than these, it is also equipped with ABS with EBD, ESP with roll-over mitigation, front and rear fog lamps, ISOFIX mounts and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). And in addition, it also has first-in-segment dual-zone fully automatic temperature control. It also gets a first-in-segment Smart Steering System. With so many first-in-class features, this made-in India car is surely a car to be proud of.

  3. Tata Safari

    Being Tata’s first totally indigenous SUV developed by the company, Safari has a legacy of its own. An SUV which has stayed from over 20 years, Tata Safari is still the first choice of people who want to buy a sturdy, powerful and affordable SUV. It was launched back in 1998 with a 4X4 option. Yes, you read that right! The engine duty was done by a turbo diesel engine which produced 89hp of power. From then on, the SUV has got major engine upgrades, major facelifts and new variants. Tata has been a step forward when it comes to the safety of its customers. Even in the first-gen of Safari, the company equipped safety features such as ABS with EBD and airbags. This is the reason, Safari has a legacy to tell and a future to live. And with Tata’s trust backing the SUV, it is known to one of the most loved SUV in India.

  4. Hyundai Grand i10 Nios

    South Korean’s leading carmaker and India’s largest exporter of cars, Hyundai, is known for the ultimate feature loaded cars. One such is the Hyundai i10 Nios which is the latest generation of one of the most famous hatchbacks by Hyundai, the i10. There are 3 engine options with the Grand i10 Nios. First one is the 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine which churns out 81hp of power and 113Nm of torque. The 1.2-litre U2 CRDi diesel engine, on the other hand, produces 74hp of power and 190Nm of torque. And the third one is the 1.0-litre turbo GDi petrol engine which produces 98hp of power and 172Nm of torque. Hyundai is known to load the cars with features and Grand i10 Nios is no exception. The hatchback with adequate engine options and a list of good features do make it a made-in India car to be proud of.

  5. DC Avanti

    India’s very own car customisation company owned by Dilip Chhabria, DC, launched a sports car that was completely built in India. With his vision of making an indigenous sports car, Dilip Chhabria designed the Avanti, India’s first sports car. It is powered by a Renault-sourced 2.0-litre engine capable of churning out 310hp of power and a peak torque of 340Nm. The special edition of Avanti even featured paddle shifters.

  6. Mahindra Scorpio

    This SUV literally made cars suffer from low self-esteem due to the bold stance and rigid body it is built on. Seeing the success of Bolero in the SUV segment, Mahindra introduced the Indians to another SUV, Scorpio. It came powered by a 2.6-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine which produced 104.8hp and a 270Nm of torque. The rugged SUV has gone through some major revamp sessions which have kept it alive. Scorpio has been strong since 2002 and even after 18 years, the demand seems to have no bounds.

  7. Hyundai Verna

    Recently, Hyundai launched the all-new Verna 2020. Verna is one of the most premium offerings from the South Korean carmaker. It also gets 3 engine options like the Grand i10 NIOS. A 1.0-litre turbocharged GDi petrol engine which will churn out 98.63hp of power and 172Nm of peak torque. Another 1.5-litre diesel engine with a power output of 113.4hp of power and 250Nm of torque. A 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 113hp of power and 144Nm of torque. Talking about features, all-new 2020 Hyundai Verna features a wireless charger, the smart boot, emergency stop signal, ventilated front seats, twin-tip mufflers, and so on. So it safe to say that it is one of the favourite made-in India cars.

  8. Mahindra e2O

    Showcasing Mahindra’s future-ready approach, e2O is one of the few fully indigenous electric cars in India. It comes powered by a 19kW, 3-phase AC induction motor which produces over 70Nm of torque. Talking about the features, it has got regenerative braking, smartphone app connectivity, advanced battery technology, low running cost, low maintenance cost, small turning radius, torque-on-demand, low carbon footprint and zero tailpipe emissions make this car a good choice for local travelling.

  9. Ford Ecosport

    India’s first subcompact SUV, Ecosport is produced in Chennai’s plant of Ford in India. It was initially exported to European markets and later in 2018, the export to the North American market also began. This SUV is known to be compact yet adequately powered. The latest generation of Ford Ecosport is powered by a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder engine pushing the maximum power output to 122hp with 149 Nm of torque. The engine also comes mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Being produced in India at such a large scale that it is exported to other nations makes it a proud moment for us.

  10. Tata Nano (Honourable Mention)

    It all began with an idea to give the Indians the cheapest possible car. Ratan Tata promised the country for the same. And the Tata Nano was born. A car with a price tag of 1 lakh! And with the comfort of a car. This is the reason Nano is on the list. It is not just a car but a trust that Tata will never break. Nano is for sure a car that Indians will never forget.
