Maruti Suzuki Jimny CKD Kits Imported to India for Trials- Report

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2020. Since then it was anticipated that Maruti could introduce the new no-nonsense two-door off-roader in India sometime this year.

It seems that the once a rumour could soon become a reality as according to a recent report by TeamBHP Maruti Suzuki has started importing multiple variants of the new age Maruti Suzuki Jimny as CKDs or Complete Knock-Down units in the country.

  • The report also states that these designated kits have already reached India and are awaiting customs clearance.
  • Maruti Suzuki is also planning upon producing a total of 5K units of the 2-Door Jimny SUV for export purpose.
  • Rumour also has it that the Indo-Japanese could bring a 5-Door version of the Jimny in the country sometime later this year which will be sold under the MS-Toyota subsidiary NEXA.

  • When launched it is expected to get its power from the 1.5-litre K-Series petrol engine sourced from the Brezza.
  • The engine is capable of producing 100bhp of power and 130Nm of peak torque.
  • Transmission option on the Jimny will include a standard 5-speed manual and an optional 4-speed automatic gearbox.
  • Additionally, the new age SUV will also feature Suzuki’s advanced 4X4 – AllGrip system.

Will the Indian-Spec Jimny resemble it’s International-Spec (feature-wise)?

  • Feature-wise the International-spec variant comes equipped with Suzuki’s SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system, multi-functional steering wheel and power-adjustable ORVMs.

  • Additional features include 15-inch split-style alloy wheels and projector headlamps with LED DRLs.
  • The Indian-spec variant, however, might not feature the same bells and whistles as its International cousin.
  • Certain reports also suggest that we could see the 5-door 2021 Maruti Jimny/Gypsy by as early as 2021 with an expected price range of Rs. 12-15 lakh (Ex-showroom)

Will it be renamed?

  • We also believe that Maruti could rename the 5-Door India-spec Jimny to ‘Gypsy’ as there are plenty of renders which certainly suggest the similarities between the Gypsy and its arch-rival in the Indian market the Mahindra Thar.
