Global NCAP? What is that?

Global New Car Assessment Program, is a program that evaluates the safety standards of vehicles. It not only promotes safety standards, but it also tests vehicle safety and gives ratings accordingly. Its main motive is to aware people around the globe about the safety standards of vehicles. Global NCAP evaluation method may differ based on country but the main method involves: 

• Adult occupant protection – The Adult Occupant Protection score is determined by the car’s ability to protect the adults inside the car from frontal, lateral, or rear impact as well as whiplash.
• Child occupant protection – This evaluation judges the basis of whether the vehicle is compatible with various child restraints of various sizes and designs such as CRS installation score. It also makes sure that it has ISOFIX anchorages for child seats.
• Safety features – It is checked whether the vehicle possesses the required safety features to prevent any kind of incident. These features include ESC, ABS, etc.

Maruti Swift Safety Rating by Global NCAP

The Maruti Swift Safety Rating test by Global NCAP was conducted in the year 2022, it was tested in different scenarios such as

• Frontal offset deformable barrier test.
• Side movable deformable barrier test (car).
• Side pole impact test (pole).

On the basis of these tests, the Maruti Swift Safety Rating was determined by Global NCAP, it secured:

• 19.19 out of 34.00 for Adult Occupant safety 
• 16.68 out of 49.00 for Child Occupant safety.

Adult Occupant Protection: 

Adult Occupant Protection score is decided on the basis of three tests those are:

• Frontal offset deformable barrier test: 

• • • Head and Neck – Good Protection was provided to the head and neck of both the driver and the passenger.
    • Chest – Weak chest protection was provided to the driver while Adequate protection to the passenger’s chest.
    • Knees – Marginal Protection was provided to both the knees of the driver and good protection was provided to the passenger’s left knee while marginal protection was to the right knee.
    • Tibias – Adequate protection to driver’s tibias while good protection to passenger’s tibias.
    • Foot – Footwell area was rated unstable.

• Side movable deformable barrier test (car):

• • • Head – Good protection was provided to the head.
    • Chest – Weak protection for the chest.
    • Abdomen – Good protection for the abdomen.
    • Pelvis – Good protection for the pelvis.

• Side pole impact test (pole): No side pole impact test was conducted as the car does not have side head protection even as optional. 

On the basis of these results, Maruti Swift safety rating for Adult Occupant Protection was 19.19 out of 34.00.

Child Occupant Protection: 

Child Occupant Protection score is decided based on three tests those are:

• Child Restraint – A seat or system designed to keep children safe inside a car.

• Dynamic Score – It represents the overall safety performance of the CRS also known as 

• CRS type – Refers to the type of restrain available in the car.

• Adjust – Refers to adjustment and installation features of CRS.

• Position – Show in was position the child seat is moving during a crash.

• ISOFIX / TT – ISOFIX is a seat attachment system that secures a car seat directly to the vehicle’s frame while TT stands for a Top tether which is an additional strap to the top of a car seat. 

• CRS installation:  CRS stands for Child Restrain System in which Maruti Swift secured 3.86 out of 12.00.

• Vehicle Assessment score: Maruti Swift got 0.00 out of 13.00.

On the basis of these results, Maruti Swift safety rating for Child Occupant Protection was 16.68 out of 49.00.
