Are the Chinese upto something? as camouflaged variants of the MG Hector and the MG Gloster has been spotted testing on Indian roads. However, we are still unsure that whether MG has been testing a new feature or a new variant is being prepared.
The MG Hector was the first product from the Chinese owned British carmaker and has been the sole breadwinner for the brand. With its launch, the Hector was selling like hotcakes and in no time was part of the monthly best-selling cars list.
The same can be said for the MG Gloster as with its launch the Gloster had to compete with the king, the Ford Endeavour and the Toyota Fortuner. However, being a Chinese product, it still received immense response from the Indian public was able to garner a good number of bookings within the first week of its launch.
What’s under the hood?
MG Hector
It comes with two engine options: a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine. The petrol unit produces 143ps of power and a peak torque of 250Nm. The diesel engine produces 170ps of power and a peak torque of 350Nm. A 48V hybrid system is also offered with the petrol engine.
MG Gloster
The Gloster offers a 2.0 turbo diesel engine producing 163hp @4000 rpm with 375Nm of peak torque @1500-2400 rpm.It also gets a first in segment 2.0 twin-turbo diesel engine churning 218hp @4000 rpm with 480Nm of peak torque @1500-2400 rpm.
Both engines come paired to a standard 8-speed automatic transmission.
