MG Hector Plus: What is different from the regular Hector?

The Chinese-owned British brand unveiled the 7-seat version of Hector at the Auto Expo 2020. The seven-seat SUV has been named Hector Plus. There are many details other than the extra middle row Hector Plus has in comparison to the Hector.

  1. How long is long enough?

The Hector Plus is not much longer than the standard model. It measures 4,695mm in length (40mm longer than the Hector) while the height and width are the same as that of the standard version. Plus’s rear bumper which has been redesigned has added to the length.

  2. Is the exterior the same?
There are no drastic changes as such at the outside. Some minor tweaks here and there are visible though. First of all, the most prominent change is the all-black grille. The Hector Plus also has thicker LED DRLs, a revamped front bumper design, a new headlight and fog lamp housing, reworked tail-lights, all-new dual-exhaust design. The extra overhung is visible at the rear due to the 40mm extra length.
  3. Is it any different at the interior?

The MG Hector Plus is significantly different at the inside as compared to the standard Hector. It will be offered in 6-seat and 7-seat options. 6-seat variant will have captain seats for the middle row while there will be bench-like seats in the middle for the 7-seat variant. Other than this, the top variant will get a panoramic roof and MG’s in-car connectivity suite.

  4. But what about the power?

You may have expected to get the more powerful option with the MG Hector Plus. But that’s not the case here. It will be powered by the same engine options as that of the Hector. These include the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, 1.5-litre petrol engine with 48V mild hybrid system and 2.0-litre diesel engine. The petrol engine will churn out 143hp of power with a peak torque of 250Nm while the diesel engine will be oozing 170hp of power and a 350Nm peak torque.
The engines will be mated to the same transmission options: 6-speed manual as standard and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission as an option with petrol engines.

  5. The Rivals and the Cost

The MG Hector Plus will be rivalling the Tata Gravitas, Mahindra XUV500 and the Hyundai Creta which may be getting a 7-seat option later. MG Motor India has not revealed the price yet but it can be expected to launch within the ₹15lakh to ₹20lakh price bracket.
