Sir Stirling Moss : The man who personified motorsports passes away at 90

Sir Stirling Moss, the F1 legend has passed away at the age of 90. He dies due to a prolonged illness that he was suffering from. Sir Moss did a total of 529 races in his life. Out of these, he won 212 races! He had a really successful track career. He is regarded as one of the greatest Formula 1 drivers. The thing to notice here is that he never won the world championship. Still, he has his name among the greatest!

“It was one lap too many, he just closed his eyes,” said his wife Lady Moss. Sir Stirling Moss retired from public life in January 2018. This was because of the ongoing illness. He previously spent 134 days in the hospital suffering from a chest problem in 2016. He was a versatile racer and therefore was informally addressed as ‘Mr Motor Racing’. The title explained his quality of driving and racing on the track!

Sir Stirling Moss was a part of the Mercedes team. His team commented, “motorsport has lost not only a true icon and a legend but a gentleman”. 3-time world F1 champion, Jackie Stewart who started his career around 1961 said, “He walked like a racing driver should walk, he talked like a racing driver, he looked like a racing driver and he set a standard that I think has been unmatched since he retired.”

In a 7 year span between 1955 & 1961, Moss finished 4 times as a runner-up and 3 times in the third place. In 1958, he was closest two the win but lost to Mike Hawthorn by only a single point. Hawthorne was accused of reversing on track at the Portuguese GP that year but Moss defended him. This shows how great Sir Stirling Moss was, as a sportsman! A legend has passed away this time and he will always be remembered for his achievements in the F1 world and other racing events as well!
