The ones who have followed TVS since the time there was a JV between TVS and Suzuki know about the Fiero very well. And the ones not familiar with the name, this article is for you. Everyone is quite familiar with the TVS Apache, a moniker that has been in play since 2006. Before that, there was a 150cc bike that took the mantle to take on the Bajaj Pulsar. It was the TVS Fiero 150, a 4-stroke 147cc bike, that marked TVS’ entry in the 4-stroke segment.
TVS Fiero 150 | Engine Specifications |
|
Engine | 147.5cc 4-stroke, Single Cylinder |
Power | 12hp @7,000rpm |
Torque | 10.5Nm @6,500rpm |
Top Speed | 104kmph |
Mileage | 53kmpl |
TVS Fiero was a light-weighted bike, 126kgs to be precise. It was fairly powered, had a good fuel efficiency and an optimum top speed. The company offered a disc brake at the front for added safety. TVS Suzuki split their ways in 2001 and the bike was sold under TVS.
The segment got more competitive and this is when TVS Apache 150 comes into existence, first of the Apache grandeur. TVS developed the bike using its own R&D. Fiero’s 147cc engine went through major improvements which resulted in an increase in power output from 12hp to 13.5hp. TVS gave the Apache a synchronised stiff chassis, a derivative from TVS Racing marquee. TVS claimed that the Apache 150 is the fastest in its segment, thanks to the fast acceleration due to the intake and exhaust resonator. The sporty design and sleek looks added to the USPs of this bike. TVS Apache 150 was able to reach a top speed of 112kmph.
Present: TVS Fiero 125 To Launch Soon?
According to some media reports, TVS has registered the Fiero 125 moniker. This is probably an attempt to mark TVS’ entry in the 125cc segment. The 200cc, 160cc and 310cc segment has one or the other Apache. But when it comes to 125cc, TVS has not been very lucky. The TVS Flame 125 launched in 2008 never took off.
Why not use the Apache moniker?
TVS Apache is a series of race breed motorcycles which have done really well in their segment, being among the most powerful ones. Using the name for a 125cc bike will surely showcase Apache as a commuter rather than a racing bike. This is why the company seems to revive the Fiero brand in order to take on the Bajaj Pulsar 125. Honda CB Shine and other bikes in the segment.
