Finally! It seems like German carmaker Volkswagen has come to its senses as the brand might be launching a new compact sedan by April 2022. The product in question is the Volkswagen Vento successor, the soon to launch Volkswagen Virtus.
although it was scheduled to launch last by late 2020 and was also showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. The launch timeline was extended due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.
So, going by leading media reports the soon to launch Honda City and Hyundai Verna rival will go into production by early 2022 closely followed by its launch. Additionally. it will be almost 10 years after the brand introducing a new compact sedan in the Indian market.
What will power the all-new Volkswagen Virtus?
- the new Maruti Suzuki Ciaz rival will be based on the brand MQB AO IN platform.
- The same platform also underpins the lies of the recently launched Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Rapid and other products.
- Additionally, the Indian spec variant will measure the same as its European cousin.
- The European spec currently measures at 4,482mm in length, 1,751mm in-breath and 1,472mm in height, making it 92mm longer, 52mm wider and 5mm taller than the Vento.
- It is also likely to be launched with a petrol powertrain.
- We can also expect it to come powered by a 1.0-litre TSI engine borrowed from the Vento and a 1.5-litre motor taken from the Taigun.
- Transmission options could include a standard 6-speed manual, AMT and an optional CVT and DSG gearbox.
Anything new on the feature end?
- It is expected to boast a 10.0-inch infotainment system compatible with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a three-spoke multifunctional steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, premium leatherette seats, armrest, soft-touch centre console and many more.
- On the Outside, it is said to support an all-LED head and taillamp setup, 4 slat chrome-plated front grille, 17.0-inch laser cut alloy wheel and more.
What about rivals?
- Whan launched the soon to launch Volkswagen Virtus will rival the likes of the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Toyota Yaris and its cousin the Skoda Slavia slated to launch during the same timeline.
